Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Guess.That.City website and game (the "Service"), operated by Roman Kauffert ("we", "us"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

Guess.That.City is a free browser game in which you try to identify a city from its building footprints and place a guess on a world map. Building footprints and boundaries are derived from third-party open data and are deliberately transformed and obfuscated; they are provided for entertainment only and must not be used for navigation, surveying, or any operational purpose.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country) to create an account. You may play as a guest without an account.

3. Accounts and usernames

• To save scores and appear on the leaderboard you create an account with an email address, a username, and a password, and confirm your email.
• You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for all activity under your account.
• Usernames must be 3–20 characters (letters, numbers, underscores), must be unique, and must not be offensive, misleading, or impersonate another person or brand. We may reclaim or change usernames that violate these Terms.
• You may be signed in on one device at a time; signing in elsewhere ends the earlier session.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• cheat, manipulate scores, or interfere with the scoring, leaderboard, or single-device rules;
• access the Service or its APIs through automated means, scrape data, or attempt to reconstruct the underlying (obfuscated) geographic data;
• disrupt, overload, probe, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or its infrastructure;
• use the Service unlawfully or to infringe the rights of others.

5. Intellectual property

• The Service, its code, design, and branding are owned by us or our licensors.
• Building footprints and administrative boundaries are © OpenStreetMap contributors and the Overture Maps Foundation, used under their respective licences (ODbL and CDLA). Attribution is provided within the Service.
• You retain any rights in the username you choose, and grant us a licence to display it (for example on the leaderboard) as part of operating the Service.

6. Advertising and third-party services

The Service is delivered using third-party providers (hosting, database and authentication, email delivery, and the MapTiler map basemap) and displays advertising supplied by Google. Advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies as described in our Privacy Policy, and only where you have consented. Your use of third-party services is also subject to their terms.

Specifically: if you play without an account, a full-screen advertisement may be shown between one game and the next, starting from your second game. Its length is set by the advertiser, not by us. Players with an account are not shown advertisements. We may change, add, or remove advertising placements at any time.

7. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the game data is accurate or complete. Distances, scores, and boundaries are approximate and for entertainment only.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law (including, where applicable, liability for intent or gross negligence and statutory consumer rights).

9. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms or to protect the Service or other users.

10. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be indicated by updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
